2008 Summit

2008 Summit Schedule

3rd Annual Bay Area churches of Christ 2008 Ministry Summit

Theme

Breaking Past Historical Ministry Barriers: The Church Responding to the Deepest Needs of God's Saints & the World (Galatians 6:1-10)

The West Oakland church of Christ will be hosting the 2nd annual Bay Area Ministry Summit for all local church of Christ congregations in the area. Your active participation and expertise in this six day event is vitally important. The Ministry Summit will be held from 7/27/08-8/1/08. Click here for Presenters/Topics/Panelists.

The goal of the Ministry Summit is to bring all Bay Area congregations together for the purpose of learning from each other scripturally, strategically, and experientially, how to improve the collective and individualistic productivity of our congregations. The Ministry Summit is designed to cover, reveal, and address two primary elements:

1.      Statistical performance of Bay Area congregations (How are we doing concerning attendance, baptisms, membership, Sunday school, New Convert classes, etc?)

2.      Congregational ministry improvement (No matter how well our congregations are performing or functioning we can all learn ways to do things better)

During the Monday-Friday portion of the Ministry Summit, 7:00PM-9:00PM (7/28/08-8/1/08), the format will be Panel style with seven to nine Christian brothers/preachers on the panel each night. Not being on a panel will not exclude any person from responding to questions or clarifying statements. There will be two 20 minute presentations, lectures, or examples of a particular tool that has worked well at a particular congregation(s), each night as well. The goal is for the leadership of each represented congregation to walk away with a package in hand (each night), with all the necessary steps included, regarding the implementation of a ministry or ministries that have been proven successful congregationally. In essence, at the conclusion of the of the Ministry Summit, ten successful ministry packages will have been explored, shared, discussed, and delivered to a representative of each participating congregation. The successful ministries are those that have been proven effective congregationally and have been developed, modified, or implemented, or maintained church of Christ preachers and leaders of the Bay Area. The presented strategies will not be those that are working elsewhere, they will be specific to the Bay Area. There is talented leadership, organizational skill, and competence in the San Francisco Bay Area and this will provide as an opportunity for a calibrated and cooperative showcase, strengthening all congregations. One congregation may have an outstanding youth ministry while another may have a solid ministry for seniors. One congregation may have an excellent evangelistic ministry while another may have a tremendous training program for boys. By sharing effective ministries, all congregations can be potentially strengthened and empowered. Members in the audience will have opportunities during the Panel portion of each night to ask guided questions that pertain to the direction of the panel dialogue.

On Sunday, the statistical information collected from the surveys will also be shared and explored. The data will speak to collective growth or decline as the local churches that exist in the Bay Area. For example, of the 12-15 congregations that responded to the survey, the average attendance of all the congregations will be combined and shared as one number. As the West Oakland church of Christ hosts this Ministry Summit annually, we will be able to monitor and track quantitative and qualitative productivity, collectively. This will help all Christians know in the Bay Area from a collective congregational perspective, how the body of Christ is doing. We are looking forward to having an edifying, facilitative, and productive six days in the Lord.
