Bright & Morning Star
Revelation 22:15-17
Through the
divinely inspired lexis of John the revelator it was stated, “For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers,
and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. 16I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify
unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of
David, and the bright and morning star. 17And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that
heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let
him take the water of life freely” (Revelation
22:15-17). In the passage, awesome Jesus described Himself as the Bright and
Morning Star. In seeking the luminosity of God’s glory, it serves the Bible
student well to investigate descriptive terminology the Master uses in
reference to His essence. Exerting quality time in such a feat can only provide
a deeper and more intense understanding of whom God is and how He benefits
human creation. Studying the immensity and infinity of God should help all
intelligent creation in the human forum, gain and intimate perspective on
personal inferiority and God’s supreme superiority.
The distances to the stars are so great a new unit of distance is
needed: the light year. The light year is not a unit of time; it is the
distance light travels in a year, or about 6 trillion miles. The nearest star
is some 4.2 (over 24 trillion) light years away. To
provide perspective: In a jetliner, at 550 miles an hour, we cover distance 10
times as fast as in a car. The United States is 5-1/2 hours wide, and two days
will take us around the world. At 550 MPH, the Moon is three weeks away, Venus
over 5 years, and the Sun 20. Pluto, the outermost planet, is still 750 years
away by airplane. The nearest star is still so far away as to be unimaginable:
52 million years. At 18,000 miles an hour, the Space Shuttle crosses the Unites
States in 10 minutes and circles the Earth in an hour and a half. In 13 hours
it covers the distance to the Moon, but even so would take two months to cover
the distance to Venus and seven to cover the distance to the Sun. Pluto is
still over two years away. The nearest star is still 160,000 years away via
Space Shuttle. Light, at 186,300 miles (298,000 km) per second, could circle
the Earth seven times in one second and reach the Moon in 1-1/2 seconds. The
Sun is about 8-1/2 minutes away at the speed of light. It takes light about
5-1/2 hours to reach Pluto from the Sun, but 4.3 years to reach the next star.
No man will ever touch or reach a star trillions of miles away, but the Bright and Morning Star (Jesus) is asking you to come to Him Today. Remember you are the clay In The Potter’s Hands. God has paved a way to save you today!
