Growing Up In Him
Colossians 2:6-7
Successful and healthy growth is dependant upon the proper matriculation through various stages of life. Elementary school students have educational benchmarks and standards that must be mastered before they can advance to the next grade or level of instruction. Preschool children learn their colors, shapes, alphabet, numbers, and begin experimenting with low level reading. However, when the educational basics are skipped, a degenerate correlation with failure becomes a probable result.
A similar principle applies biblically. Notice the words of Paul.
“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:6-7). Christians are not only rooted in Christ, they must be built up in Him. The building up in Christ consists of all the struggles and temptations Christians must endure. The trials of the Christian experience and how they are dealt with strictly correlate with effective or ineffective development in Christ.
God has rooted all of His children in Christ, but how the
church deals with the wiles of the devil and tugs to the flesh, determines
how well a person will be built up in Christ. When Christians yield to sin,
an opportunity to be built up in Him is missed. When a Christian refuses to
be a living sacrifice, an opportunity to be built up in Him is missed. Like
elementary school children, developmentally, Christians begin at the bottom
(as babes) and must be built up in Christ through Christian experiences and
battles with the flesh. Tribulations bring patience, experience and that experience
can bring hope in the face of the next struggle. Christians are to grow in
Him. Be dedicated to being built up and growing in Him. Remember, you are
the clay In The Potter’s Hands. God
has paved a way to save you today!
