His Love, Your Faith
Luke 9:37-42
With tremendous anticipation, anxiety, fear, and trepidation, someone
waited, prayed for, and loved you during your wilderness walking days. At one point,
everyone walked according to the prince and power of the air (Ephesians 2:2).
Unfortunately, some people are still walking in the wilderness under the
influence of the devil. When stuck in the psychological wilderness of sin,
rationality, practicality, and spirituality are distant and inconceivable
attributes.
In the devotional text, a father was in utter distress because of the terminal
condition of his son. The boy was consumed by an evil spirit and was possessed
by the wickedness of the carnal world. The demon-spirit tossed him around with
reckless abandon, threw him into fire, and attempted to drown him in water. He
was gripped with such demonic power he engaged in self mutilation, gnashed his
teeth, convulsed, and foamed at the mouth (Mark 9:20-22). Allegorically, the
son was lost, out of control, and demonically captured like many in the world
today. Through his condition, the father realized there was nothing he could
physically do for his son. He had already sought assistance from the Disciples
of Christ, but it was to no avail, the son was deteriorating (Mark 9:18).
In hopes of resolution the father cried out to Christ for the salvation of his son. Jesus made it clear that his son could be healed but it was predicated upon his faith. The son could do nothing for himself. The healing was in the hands of The Love of God and Faith of a Father. Because of the high stakes and potential death of a son, the faithful father said, “..Lord, I believe; help mine unbelief” (Mark 9:24).
