Akwatia Church of Christ

The pictures depicted above are those of the people of the Akwatia Church of Christ during the borehole freshwater ceremony. The congregation is led by a spiritual group of strong Christian men: Gideon Torku (Minister), William Darkwa (Secretary), Joe Dzogbede (Treasurer), Charles Asante, Kwaku Ataffuah, Samuel Lanyo, Albert Woode, Emmanuel Adika, John Adu Afrim

The members of the West Oakland Church of Christ are involved in a beautiful relationship with the Christian saints of Akwatia Ghana. Dr. Ammar Saheli and Dwight Gray were able to visit the congregation and country in 2005 and in the summer of 2007 were able to return, along with Rodney Stovall Sr. In 2005 a Computer Learning Center project was financed by the West Oakland members, erecting a building and furnishing it with computers for the Church of Christ members, students of the Church of Christ elementary school in Akwatia, and community members.

In addition to the computer center project, a borehole (for fresh water) project was also financed and completed. On 7/10/07, Dr. Ammar Saheli, Dwight Gray, and Rodney Stovall, Sr., participated in the inauguration ceremony.

The pictures below are simply a couple of captions of the slave dungeons of Elmina Castle. The gate depicted was known as the door/gate of no return. It was the last exit the slaves made before boarding ships for the horrendous Transatlantic/Middle Passage.
